Trio students organise a green run to raise funds for causes

17th November 2023, Bengaluru

Students of Trio World Academy organised the second edition of ‘Triothon – Run for a Greener Earth’, the official annual marathon event. The aims of the run were to connect to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13, which calls for urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts, raise funds for environmental causes and promote health by encouraging people to run. It was a fully student-driven CAS event by the school’s Run for Equality Committee, which brought the entire school together.

Students, staff and parents participated in this walk/jog/run at the Trio campus in Sahakarnagar, Bengaluru, INDIA. The distances were 2kms (upto10 years) and 3.5kms above 10 years onwards.

The guest of honour was Mr. Jai Sharma, who is a National Geographic certified Educator, Storyteller, wildlife photographer and Eco Volunteer for Forest department with an experience of over 27 years. He is a Member of IUCN CEC- Commission for Education and Communication (2021-25). He is a consultant for many NGOs for capacity building training, ecological assessments, outreach programs. He has organised several nature study camps for students and teacher training workshops. He is a member of UNESCO, IUCN, UN, Children and Nature Network and several other committees and organisations.

The event was flagged off at 9am. More than 600 students, staff and parents participated in the event. Parents started the run followed by High school students, then Middle school students and primary school students. Nursery and Early years ran inside the school campus.

Mr. Naveen KM said, “We are proud to be organising the 2nd edition of Triothon, our green run. It is heartening to see our students taking the lead in addressing environmental challenges and demonstrating responsible citizenship. This is one step in working towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13, by promoting environmental consciousness and sustainable practices within our school and beyond.”

The funds raised through this event will be used for green initiatives – a vegetable patch for a children’s orphanage and donation of solar lamps for their garden. The school has also tied up with “Keshava Seva Samithi” to support their initiatives on Education, Health and Women Empowerment.
