The DP Core

The heart of the Diploma Programme

Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

Assesses student’s reflection and interpretation of the nature of knowledge. Assessed through an oral presentation and essay.

Extended Essay (EE)

A mandatory core component: a 4000-word independent and self-directed research paper submitted at the end of the process.

CAS

Creativity, Activity, Service. Practical and purposeful projects undertaken to create impactful outcomes, encouraging personal challenge.

IB Diploma Subject Requirements

Selection Rules
  • Students must take 3 subjects at Higher Level (HL) and 3 subjects at Standard Level (SL).
  • Groups 1, 2 and 5 are compulsory. At least one subject from Group 3 and one from Group 4.
  • Group 6 may be replaced by one of the other groups.
  • English B is only for students taking ESL or who haven't done English Literature in Grade 10.
